Why choose Essential Oils?
-- They are biologically active
— They are active at the surface of cells.
— They have a chemical structure that is synergistic with human cells
— The lipid-soluble nature of the oils is very similar to the cell’s membrane
— They are readily acceptable by your body.
— Essential Oil molecules are so small they readily penetrate the body’s cell membranes.

- You have the flu or cold and are feeling under the weather - the doctor has prescribed antibiotics - and now you are wondering, if they will help???
- Why antibiotics can't kill a virus!
- Bacteria live on the OUTSIDE of a cell and viruses live on the INSIDE of a cell. Most antibiotics cannot penetrate the cell membrane to attack the virus; they can only deal with the bacteria on the outside - that's why they are called antibiotics.
- Essential oils, however, can pass right through the cell membrane to
- effectively deactivate the virus inside the cell !!!
- Essential oils actually STOP viruses and bacteria from replicating. This is why essential oils are so effective.
- Nature provides antiviral and antibacterial support for our bodies. Check out the many additional properties essential oils provide.
Purity and Potency - why are they important?
The old adage “You get what you pay for” particularly applies to essential oils.
There are several grades of essential oils - ranging from synthetic to therapeutic but since therapeutic grade is what matters for personal use that is the one we will be covering. Alarmingly, anyone can put a label on a bottle of essential oil and call it therapeutic grade. While there probably is some essential oil in the bottle, more than likely that is not all that’s in the bottle. Unfortunately there can also be fillers, pesticides, and other contaminants in there as well. Smelling the oils unfortunately, will not give you many clues.
Since there were no standards in 2008, dōTERRA created the Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® (CPTG) standard oil. dōTERRA certifies that their therapeutic-grade essential oils are pure natural aromatic compounds carefully extracted from plants. Proper extraction and quality control methods also ensure that dōTERRA’s essential oils are free of any contaminants such as pesticides or other chemical residues.
In addition, dōTERRA’s Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade essential oils are subjected to further quality testing that ensures the correct composition of the active natural compounds found in each oil. Testing includes: Organoleptic, Microbiological, Heavy Metal, Gas Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry and FTIR.
Even though an essential oil may be 100% pure, if the right species or part of a plant has not been used, or if the plant has not been grown in the right environment or harvested at the right time, or if it has not been distilled under the right conditions, the natural chemical makeup of the extraction will not provide as predictable and powerful a benefit. In some cases, the wrong plant harvested at the wrong time may result in an extract that contains harmful levels of some constituents.

Essential oils are very clean, almost crisp, to the touch and are immediately absorbed by the skin. Pure, unadulterated essential oils are translucent and range in color from crystal clear to deep blue.
To get the best oils, firstly, engage experienced growers to nurture plants in their indigenous environment using sustainable farming practises. Only plants grown in their country of origin produce active, healing components sought after in oils in high concentrations. Secondly, patiently harvest plant material at the perfect moment to capture these components. Thirdly, gently and skillfully distil the plant material to extract and craft the perfect essential oil.
The crucial aspect of the process comes at the end in the form of testing - use only oils that can demonstrate the following analyses have been formed to ensure purity and potency. --Organoleptic, —MicroBiological, —Heavy Metal, —Gas Chromatography, —Mass Spectrometry, —FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy), DNA and others should be done by the company that you are trusting to provide you with the best oils.
